Almost twenty years ago, Tattile began a successful collaboration with Fideltus, a company primarily focused on offering high-tech vehicle tracking and license plate recognition systems.
Turkey recently started a major operation to better its roadway system, and Tattile was the best option for improving its tolling collection method.
In free-flow tolling, high accuracy in automatic license plate recognition is fundamental to avoid losing money for the road owner. With 100% in-house software and hardware development, Tattile can ensure high-performance and made-in-Italy quality through internal manufacturing and rigorous testing in state-of-the-art climatic chambers and EMC testing laboratories.
Turkey’s roads needs
A mix of modernization and challenges characterizes the road situation in Turkey. In recent years, the Turkish government has invested significantly in infrastructure development, building new highways and improving existing ones.
However, there are also problems to be addressed. Traffic in urban areas is often congested, with peaks during rush hours, and consequently, road safety is a concern.
Turkey continues to work to improve its road network, making it more efficient and safer for each one of the 10.000 vehicles that transit every day. The main concern was to find a solution that signified an improvement in technology but, at the same time, simple and fast to install.
Tattile’s solution: Vega53 and Axle Counter
Tattile was more than glad to help improve free flow tolling in Turkey by providing ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) cameras and cameras dedicated to axle counting. For this application, two products of the Vega family were chosen: Vega53 and Axle Counter.
These cameras do not require heavy road work, but they are entirely based on image analysis and processing. Since both are equipped with the Stark platform, they can be easily integrated, creating an optimal combined solution.
Vega53 and Axle Counter together means that it is possible to access a complete set of information about the vehicle: license plate, estimated speed, direction, brand, class, color and model and, of course, its number of axes.
Successful implementation of intelligent transport systems will reduce travel times, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and traffic accidents, achieving the KPIs previously discussed with Turkey.
Vega53
With full onboard image capture and processing, Vega53 camera provides outstanding performance and flexibility for all vehicle identification tasks. Thanks to the internal Stark object and transit detector, the device automatically detects every passing vehicle with a more than 99% detection rate.
The camera has a high-power integrated infrared illuminator to support demanding performance and optimal reading even in high-complexity scenarios.
The camera can operate in remote and harsh environmental conditions thanks to its design, high-temperature range, optional LTE and expandable local storage.
Axle Counter
Axle Counter is a compact axle recognition and counting system based on A.I. It can detect and count vehicles’ axles, raised axles, and twin wheels at any time of the day or night.
The Axle Counter system is easy to install and to integrate with external illuminators, simplifying the installation impact and providing high flexibility. Its local storage capability allows it to operate stand-alone in case connectivity is not available, providing the image of the vehicle and evidence of the transit to the tolling operators.
Its internal deep learning algorithms (A.I.), trained over a vast number of images, continuously increase to provide high performance in a compact processing device.
The excellent result obtained ensures a long-term collaboration between Tattile and Turkey in the future: many projects are currently being discussed for automatic license plate recognition applications.
