What are red-light cameras? How do they work?
Traffic light cameras automatically detects the light status using camera-based image analysis without any external sensor. Every time the light turns red the violation mode activates and the system creates a virtual trigger on the road surface.
Once a vehicle crosses this virtual line causing a violation, the ALPR camera takes a picture of the license plate which is then read out by the embedded OCR engine. Besides, a series of monochrome or optionally colour context pictures are made to show the vehicle passing the stop line at the red signal. Moreover, for the final proof, even a video that shows the violation is captured.
Which kind of installations can manage a camera on top of traffic light?
The Vega Smart can manage from one to two lanes and from one traffic light per lane to one traffic light every two lanes.
What’s the difference with simple traffic monitoring cameras?
Traffic monitoring cameras are cameras who monitor traffic flows, speeds and classifications on all lanes and turns of the intersections in real-time and create automatic traffic reports for traffic planners and consultants for later analysis. A red-light camera differs from a traffic monitoring camera for the possibility to perform red light enforcement applications, automatically detecting the violation and reading the license plate.
Which is the best enforcement system for the inner-city applications?
For inner-city applications, the Vega Smart Red Traffic Light Camera enforcement system can easily be combined with the Tattile Smart Speed camera system to monitor both speed and red-light violations in a specific area.
